Feel As I Feel

A part of Princess Nuala had always existed in her brother and a part of him in her. Through the long separation of Nuada’s exile they had remained connected, each feeling what the other felt.

And so Nuada knew when his sister took Abe Sapien’s webbed hand in her own. As she drew Abe to her, she experienced Nuada’s disapproval. Even as she tasted the sour tang of Abe’s kiss, she could feel her brother’s disgust. To him Abe was an enemy, a creature who took the side of man though he might have been more readily accepted by the water spirits and mer-people that dwelt in Elfland.

She herself was an enemy as well because she stood in the way of her brother’s single-minded desire to eliminate humankind.

An enemy, yet still Nuada loved her. He could not deny her her attraction to Abe or the pleasure he gave her. As Nuala guided Abe’s hand to her breast, she felt her brother’s resistance melt away. He did not approve yet he allowed her to be with Abe, allowed himself to feel what she felt, to swoon at Abe’s caress, to thrill at his kiss, to feel affection for his gentleness and his hesitant, apologetic eagerness.
