I didn’t post a monthly round-up for July because I only wrote a couple of drabbles however I did much better during August so this list will encompass all the stories I posted in both July and August. 

 

I’m happy to say that I finally finished the very dark and ambitious Eastern Promises fic I’ve been working and re-working for months.  I guess I write two ways- in blazes of inspiration or through a long process of “stitching and unstitching” that William Butler Yeats describes in his poem Adam’s Curse.  Some ideas are easily expressed; others take time and effort to bring to fruition.  I always have dozens of story ideas in my head that I play with from time to time but haven’t yet brought to any kind of a final form.  A few examples—

A fairly fruitful month.  As always porn_battle inspired me to try out a bunch of new fandoms and pairings.  I feel like I displayed a rather extreme range this month, the fics here range from the sweet to the sadistic with rape, torture, redemption and fluff all represented.  It was also a big month for crossovers, I probably wrote as many of them this month as I've written in the past 2+ years I've been in fandom. 



Crossovers

A Picnic Near Alpha Centauri (Sandman/Harry Potter): Luna Lovegood/Despair.  PG.  When Luna is locked up during the war, Despair comes for her and finds herself a bit baffled by Miss Lovegood’s outlook.

In The Mirror of Time (The Rose of Versailles/Revolutionary Girl Utena): Oscar/Utena, PG-13.  Utena sees herself mirrored in the historic figure of Oscar Francois de Jarjayes.

The Bad Sisters (X1999/Revolutionary Girl Utena): Kanoe/Kozue, PG-13.  After leaving Ohtori Academy Kozue falls in with a dangerous older woman who understands all too well what it feels like to be shackled by virtuous sibling.


Doctor Who

At Home in the Universe: Jack/Rose/Nine.  PG.  Drabble.

Someone's Little Girl: Nine/Rose. G.  She thought they had all the time in the world.

Red Dragon

The Pieces: Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham.  R.  Dub-con.  Will was getting close in the Chesapeake Ripper case. He had all the pieces of the puzzle, he just couldn’t fit them together. Doctor Lector was willing to lend his expertise.

The Rose of Versailles

Something To Be: Oscar/Rosalie.  PG-13.  Why had Oscar, a member of the nobility, taken in a girl from the street with murder in her heart?


Sandman

Different Than A Dream: Desire/Wanda, R.  t happened years before Wanda met Barbie or Thessaly or Hazel or Foxglove. Years before she heard of the Endless or the Dream King or any of the magic weirdness that got her killed.


Son of a Witch

Homecoming: Liir/Trism.  R.  Following the events of the novel Liir and Trism are reunited.


Thunderbolts (Marvel Comics)

Twisting The Blade: Bullseye/Jack Flag.  NC-17 (non-con, torture, ickiness).  After Jack Flag’s capture by the Thunderbolts, Bullseye pays him a visit.

I only wrote one full-length story-- This Isn't Me-- this month but it was a story that was pretty important to me.  It's the first in depth Reservoir Dogs piece I've written in about a year and I have a serious attachment to that fandom and the Orange/White pairing.  Reservoir Dogs essentially defines slash to me.  I first saw the film in 2002 and the Orange/White relationship got under my skin to such a degree that four years later I was still obsession over it to the point where I was doing computer searches for "Reservoir Dogs" and "homoerotic subtext".  Long story short, this is how I found fandom and started writing fan fiction.

To Mend What is Not Broken: PG-13. Wilhelmina Benedict/Karla. Written for lgbtfest for the prompt: After a childhood spent scared out of her wits in Terreille, Wilhelmina finds more than just one kind of freedom in Kaeleer - and she finds Karla, who makes no secret about the fact that her lovers are female. Love if someone could show either Daemon or Saetan as a supportive paternal figure for Wilhelmina to be protected and encouraged by, especially considering her views of males after Terreille.

There Will Be Blood

After suffering writers block during most of February, March found me writing again.

Which is good, but not pretty.

Obscure fandoms seemed to be the rule of the day. Also my rape fetish seems to be rearing its ugly head again. Maybe this was the result of my real life struggles to make know abuses of power since I write sex as a trope for power.

There Will Be Blood


Seeking Who He May Devour: NC-17 (dub-con, violence, rape, incest).  Daniel Plainview/Paul Sunday, Eli Sunday/Paul Sunday.  Paul Sunday sold Daniel Plainview information about oil on his families land then disappeared. 17 years later the two meet again and come to terms with what they’ve become.

This story is the proud recipient of the first Marla Singer Award for subject matter that would make my  mom pray for me.  It includes what may be the most brutal sex scene I've ever written including slapping, clawing, ass whooping, creepy Daddy stuff, biting, and spit as a lubricant.  All this interspersed with fond memories of fraternal rape.  

Also, if I do say so myself Daniel Plainview is the meanest top I've had the pleasure to write since John Abruzzi in the Prison Break fandom (good times).

Tru Calling

Pathology: Jack/Harrison.  R (dub-con).  Jack wants to hurt Tru and the surest way to do that is to mess with the people she cares about. Messing with Harrison is almost too easy.

Rather disappointed with myself. Between illness and depression all I managed this month was a handful of drabbles. Hopefully I’ll get my butt into gear for the month of March. I am actually working on a couple of full-length pieces both in small/obscure fandoms: Eastern Promises and There Will Be Blood (that’s right, the one that won all the academy awards. So far as I’m concerned it’s made for slash. Eli Sunday and Daniel Plainview pretty much spend the whole film symbolically fucking each other).

When I did my monthly round-up for October I was concerned about the amount of sexually explicit material I was writing. My work this month reflects my efforts to tone it down and I’m pleased with the results. I think that my subject matter remained challenging and adult (incest, sexual abuse, Fpreg) without turning into slipshod “Character A stuck his throbbing cock into Character B’s slick cunt.” Not that I was writing stuff like that last month. I hope. Still, I want my writing to have a degree of subtlety and poetry. Of course I went to a library book sale this morning and picked up a couple of volumes of Henry Miller which just might convince me that throbbing cocks and slick cunts are poetry.

For December my priorities are to finish up stories forfem_exchange, yuri_challenge and bonking_tonks. Once I get those out of the way I’m hoping to get to some stories I’ve wanted to do in a couple of rare fandoms. So be on the lookout for The Last Unicorn femslash and Luna/Tonks as well as stories inspired by Twin Peaks, Watchmen, and Miller’s Crossing.

Hers Alone: R. Una/Septimus. From a tender age, Septimus was capable of an almost frighteningly intense and single-minded dedication and his sister became his focus point, the very center of his world.

I wrote a great deal this month in a lot of different fandoms.  While I wrote a few solid full length stories, much of what I wrote this month was short, drabbles, and flashfics, writing exercises really. 

 

While my writing in September was fairly chaste, I wrote quite a bit of sexually explicit material this month and while I’m happy with my fully developed stories that contained graphic sex (How Much More, Different Flowers) I find that I’m rather disgusted by the smut for smut’s sake I produced for various kinks memes (Angel in Heavy Syrup, Cruel Delight).  In my heart of hearts, I honestly feel that explicit sexual content has to be justified within a larger context.  Writing straight up porn makes me feel dirty. 

 

I dislike this streak of prudishness in me but I suppose I need to acknowledge it.  I’m not a sexually liberated person.  I was a raised in a household where sex was considered something that men liked but which women found unpleasant, gross and degrading.  For a woman, sex was something to be endured rather than enjoyed unless she was a complete slut who deserved to be harshly judged and punished.  From an early age I’ve made efforts to distance myself from this view of sexuality but I know it’s made an impact on me.  After all, I didn’t have sex with a man until I was 30 years old. 

 

I suppose it’s a sign of progress that I’m able to write smut for smut’s sake but I’m not so far advanced that I’m able to feel good about it. During November I'm hoping to focus more on full length fics rather than drabbles and also to write a least one original story.

After my very limited creative output in August I seem to have gotten back into stride for the month of September.  I was sad to part ways with Nzomniac, the beta-reader I’d been working with since May of 2006 but I’ve been fortunate to find several others who are willing to proof read my stories.

I love this pairing so much I’ve been reading the novel so I can write more about them.  Dan Brown’s characters are cardboard cut outs and the man wouldn’t know the divine feminine if it bit him on the ass.

In Memoriam Part 1/Part 2: Ted Tonks.  Rated R.  The life and death of Ted Tonks.  Written for the LJ community in_memoriam_7.

 This is my feel bad story of the month.  Gang rape, mental illness, character death and its canon compliant!  I even made a fanmix of the supremely depressing songs that were going through my head when I wrote this. 

 

The Depths We Fall To: Lupin/Snape.  Rated PG-13.  Set during Deathly Hallows. Despondent after being rejected in his bid to join the Trio on their quest, Lupin turns to Snape as his last chance of oblivion and escape from the responsibilities he can not face.  Written for hallowedmoments.

 
This is my first attempt to write three of my favorite characters, Lupin, Snape and Tonks, since reading Deathly Hallows.  While I’ve always seen Lupin as bisexual, I was able to accept his marriage to Tonks.  However I found the canon evidence of Snape’s heterosexuality rather harder to reconcile to my vision (or is it version) of the character.

 In the Garden of Love: Sophie Bangs/Barbara Shelley.  Rated PG-13.  Set during Promethea #22. In the garden of Chokmah Sophie and Barbara reflect on what they mean to each other.  Written for choc_fic.
 

This months only femslash offering.  A rather esoteric story written in a fandom that is obscure to nonexistent. 

 
Runaways

 Coin-Operated Boy: Victor Mancha/Chase Stein.  Rated R.  Twisted power plays and button pushing.  Written for choc_fic. 

 

While some would argue that there’s canon basic for Chase/Victor slash in a scene where Chase walks into Victor’s room and finds him naked, I really never sensed any kind of sexual tension between this pair so I manufactured some. 

 

What I’m working on right now— the second part of a two part Ginny/Snape, Luna/Ginny, Snape/Slughorn story set at Hogwarts during Deathly Hallows.  A full-length NC-17 Silas/Aringarosa story.  And finally, Snape/Petunia.  Don’t ask. 

I didn’t write nearly as much as I usually do in the month of August, only one full-length story and a handful of drabbles. I think the whole controversy regarding Live Journal content, not to mention setting up mirror journals at Greatest Journal and Insane Journal, took a lot of time and energy away from my writing this month. There were other factors as well, some positive (my visit to New York, my father’s visit to Chicago) others negative (stressing over legal and financial consequences of my bicycle accident, being exhausted because we are seriously understaffed at work). Still, despite my lack of productivity I’m not worried. I have been writing. I have two substantial Deathly Hallows compliant Harry Potter stories, one focused on Ted Tonks and a Lupin/Snape piece, being beta-read and several fairly well developed ideas I’m working on.
